Year in, year out, and right across the land, Christmas lights bring a special, seasonal glow to the hearts of both young and old. For more than 30 years, the specialists at Kummler+Matter Ltd have fitted these installations on behalf of private customers, associations and the public authorities, thus ensuring a warm and festive mood.
This year is no different, with – for the very first time – seasonal illuminations at the UBS building in the new Europaallee in Zurich, right next to the Main Station. The sea of light is made up of roughly 2000 energy-efficient LEDs and, from around 4.00 p.m. each day since the end of November, has bathed the area in a festive light.
LEDs: lower electricity consumption, longer lifespan, warmer light
LED-based Christmas lights not only use around eight times less electricity than a comparable conventional light-bulb system, they are also significantly cheaper as well as environmentally friendlier: the average lifespan of a light bulb is around 1000 hours, whereas LEDs keep going for up to 30,000 hours.
In the 1980s, the Alpiq subsidiary Kummler+Matter Ltd made a virtue out of necessity: in those days, as there were fewer orders in winter, alternatives had to be found. What started out on a small scale is now a source of great joy: Christmas lighting of all kinds.
